How to Enroll in the Texas Impact Adult Driver Course
Written by Staff Writer
If you're ready to receive your license to drive in the Lone Star State, you may need to complete the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) training.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (cq9跳高高中大奖视频) requires first-time driver's license applicants aged 18 to 24 to finish an approved Texas adult driver education program and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires applicants to watch the ITAD videos.
The educational and Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) program requirements for teens are similar, but not identical.
This article will help you check off all the steps needed to get behind the wheel.
Adult Driver's Ed and Impact Program Requirements
If you're between the ages of 18 and 24 and this will be your first time getting a license to drive in the state, you must complete the following:
- A state-approved six-hour TX education
- The one-hour ITAD video series
If you don't already have a valid license from another state, you must finish six hours of classroom instruction to earn your license in TX.
Lessons cover important topics like drug and alcohol awareness, traffic laws, safe operating techniques, risk management and more.
ITAD is a one-hour, three-part video developed by DPS to educate new motorists about the hazards of distracted driving and the importance of staying focused behind the wheel.
You must finish driver's ed before watching the ITAD videos. After viewing all segments, you have 90 days to schedule your road test. This step does not apply if you:
- Hold a valid out-of-state license
- Are 25 or older
- Are younger than 18 (take the ITTD version instead)
Select Your Experience
To satisfy the state's pre-licensing requirements, you can choose either an in-person classroom experience or an online driver training.
The TexasDrivingSchool.com Adult Driver's Ed course is cq9跳高高中大奖视频-approved and available 100% online. You can study at your pace from any internet-connected device, 24/7.
Your certificate will be provided seven days after you pass the class. You can also choose an expedited delivery option if you need to receive your license faster.
You can then complete the necessary steps by watching three short videos. The videos are available online here.
The Process for Minors
Teens aged 14 to 17 can also select from in-person or digital instruction. The required two-hour ITTD presentation can be completed online.
We offer 100% online Parent-Taught and Self-Taught options. Both include online access to the official learner's permit exam.
Once you pass the first six hours (Module One), you can take the online learner's permit written exam. Starting at age 15, you can start practicing behind the wheel.
The required ITTD video is available starting at age 16 after you experience the full classroom instruction portion of the application process.
Watch the eight 15-minute videos no more than 90 days before the road test. The full collection is available here.
Note: DPS used to offer a third version of the Impact Texas Drivers program called Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD), but that offering has been condensed into the two existing video series.
Further Instruction
Optional training can expand your mastery. Take our online Defensive Driving course to satisfy a court order, dismiss a traffic ticket or satisfy employer requirements.
